Attitude is everything

A couple of weeks ago I was in a DIY store picking up some supplies for a gardening project that I was helping my fiancee with.  We had gone to the store to pick-up a simple fence post.

Upon arrival we headed to the fencing section, noticed the price £7 picked up the post and headed to the checkout, a task that took all of a few moments.

We then proceeded to head to the checkout where the shop assistant beeped the post and on the till came the bill, £27.50.  Now this post was listed on the shelf as £7, so how on earth could one post be valued at £27.50.

The price was queried and I expected the shop assistant to be also shocked by the price for the post, she wasn't and simply stated "that's what has come up on the till".

I observed my fiancee, query this and asked for another member of staff to come to the till.  The second associate looked at the bill and was more bemused by the figure.

He took the post and asked to be shown where we had got it from, and proceeded to come back to the till and explained what had happened the £7.00 post, was actually part of a set of 4, someone had put the wrong barcode on the post.

The initial assistant, hadn't realised this, but rather than attempting to solve the problem, simply expected the customer to pay the figure that was shown. Equally placing the wrong bar code on the product inconvenienced the customer, and then to be met with an attitude of couldn't care less, just doesn't make sense.

Even when the second member of staff came back to the till she still persisted that the price was correct, until he made it plain it was part of a set and to just pop it through at the figure specified.

The attitude of the first assistant was enough to make the customer feel that their custom, wasn't needed, wasn't welcome and all in all she couldn't be arsed to help.

Look how you handle your attitude is how you're going to handle everything in your life.  Whether the events are positive or negative, a shitty attitude is going to make those negative events in your life feel all the more difficult to get out of.

Having a great attitude when times are tough, can both serve you and propel you to the next level.  It's all a question of how you manage and handle it.

So today, go out and let's have a great attitude.
