Setting a baseline

I wasn't entirely sure whether I should write this post, especially given for the better part of 4 years I've not been entirely sure where my own baseline is.

However, your baseline is important its where you are currently at.

This morning whilst lifting weights I gave a lot of thought to my own baseline, where am I at now and where do I want to go to.  Inspired, perhaps, after the weekend of viewing a new housing development in Warwick.

I felt it was time to draw a line in the sand and say this is it, this is where I am at now, this is my baseline.  It isn't the end of the story, on the contrary it is the start of the next chapter, the continuation of a journey that for me started in 2018.

So if you've just gone through a sticky patch, a break-up, lost your job or have found yourself in a situation where you feel all is lost and that this is it for the rest of your days, then its time to breakout a piece of paper.

On that piece of paper write the title

Setting a base line - START HERE

Underneath bullet list where you are at now.  I want you to detail everything, your living arrangements, job, finances, car, side-hustles, partners, family write it all out.  Get super detailed about your current condition.

I even included my body, weight, training regime and the occasional acts of self-sabotage I orchestrate to this day.

Over the next 3 months I want you to work on that base line, I want you to become focused on 3 months of hard work, of moving the needle a little bit closer to your goal.

Whatever your goal maybe.

You know where you want to get to, and it's personal to each of us.

So on your piece of paper write:

Where I want to get to

Write out your long term goals, these aren't goals you are going to achieve in the next 3 months, but rather goals you are going to be working on long term.  The next 3 months are going to be a stepping stone towards them.

Once you have them written, that's where you are heading, you're not looking back, you're moving forward towards your long term future.  Doing whatever it takes to reach them.

Action

The next stage is where it all comes together action.

Prioritise your goals, 1-3.  1 is the most urgent and that is the only goal you are going to focus on this quarter.  So if it is to repay £10,000 in credit card, workout how much want to repay on those credit cards by the end of the 3 months.

Then, get to work.  Make the repayments, learn about credit and financial management, become obsessed with the goal until it is achieved.
