Setting a baseline

Image
I wasn't entirely sure whether I should write this post, especially given for the better part of 4 years I've not been entirely sure where my own baseline is.   However, your baseline is important its where you are currently at.   This morning whilst lifting weights I gave a lot of thought to my own baseline, where am I at now and where do I want to go to.  Inspired, perhaps, after the weekend of viewing a new housing development in Warwick.  I felt it was time to draw a line in the sand and say this is it, this is where I am at now, this is my baseline.  It isn't the end of the story, on the contrary it is the start of the next chapter, the continuation of a journey that for me started in 2018.   So if you've just gone through a sticky patch, a break-up, lost your job or have found yourself in a situation where you feel all is lost and that this is it for the rest of your days, then its time to breakout a piece of paper.  On that piece of paper write ...

Robert Haylor on Email Marketing

Image
I wanted to give you all a tip this week, something that you can use in your own business, based on my own experience.  This year, I've started using my email marketing application more to reach out to both prospects and also keep in touch with my client base on a regular basis.  One of the most important and often overlooked tasks within the marketing mix is the constant growing of your email marketing list.   Growing your email marketing list isn't just something you should do as and when, but something that you make part of your everyday cycle.  So if you've recently been to a meeting with a prospective client, get their email address, if you've signed up a new client, ensure their email address is in your email marketing application or better yet had a phone call from a warm lead, get their email address.  If you don't have an email address capture form on your website for new enquiries or for people that find your content useful, then ensure you get that ad...

Mountains are supposed to be climbed

What are you up against right now?  What mountain are you trying to climb? If you've just overcome a small barrier in your life, and feel like the roadway is clear, that's awesome, but there is also another hurdle coming your way.  Sometimes those hurdles aren't small things we can simply jump over, sometimes they are massive mountains that require us to work.  Along the way we'll sometimes stumble and fall short of what we were looking to achieve.  And if this is you, I have some advice for you, smile, embrace it and keep moving forward regardless of the setback.  This might sound like someone who lacks empathy or emotion, however, tell me what good would wallowing and feeling sorry for yourself do?  Yes you've had a setback, but if you still have air in your lungs then you can still keep moving forward.  You can choose to continue to climb the mountain in front of you.  Yes you're going to be labelled, but so what, some might consider it cold, b...

Become a student of life

In 2006 I became a student at the University of Central England in Birmingham, UK.  I studied Computer Science and became a professional in my craft.  However, learning shouldn't just be something we do when we're in an educational setting, in fact I am here to tell you that I've learned more after University than I ever did whilst in education.   The one major takeaway that I'd like to share with you today is to always be a student of life.  Life is a teacher and it can sometimes be one of the most brutal teachers we have.  In 2018, I weighed a colossal 220lbs and growing, I knew I was eating the wrong things and I also knew I wasn't active.   I had basic knowledge of how to get out of it, move more and quit eating like shit.  To get out of any kind of situation whether its business, in your relationship or in life then you're going to need to become a student of that particular subject.  You're going to need to learn about the subject and then a...

Attitude is everything

A couple of weeks ago I was in a DIY store picking up some supplies for a gardening project that I was helping my fiancee with.  We had gone to the store to pick-up a simple fence post.  Upon arrival we headed to the fencing section, noticed the price £7 picked up the post and headed to the checkout, a task that took all of a few moments.  We then proceeded to head to the checkout where the shop assistant beeped the post and on the till came the bill, £27.50.  Now this post was listed on the shelf as £7, so how on earth could one post be valued at £27.50.  The price was queried and I expected the shop assistant to be also shocked by the price for the post, she wasn't and simply stated "that's what has come up on the till".   I observed my fiancee, query this and asked for another member of staff to come to the till.  The second associate looked at the bill and was more bemused by the figure.  He took the post and asked to be shown where we had got...

Daily Discipline

Waking up at 04:30 every morning isn't always going to be fun and there are going to be some days when you don't want to do it.  I am fortunate to know quite a few people who wake-up early in the morning and are able to produce, whether its a run, a workout or simply grinding out those all important tasks, first thing.  If you have a month or a year where you out performed what you would consider to be normal, then you need to go back and revisit the steps and actions that you took on a monthly, weekly and potentially even daily basis.  The difficulty, however, isn't just doing it the once it's having the energy, the creativity and the capacity to do it again and again.   Maintaining the ability to produce, to get up early every morning, to get whatever task you have to do done and out the way everyday is what it takes to turn yourself around.  If you consider, for even a moment that you can take sometime off, or become arrogant in your success then it will simp...
